FOR RELEASE: MARCH 2016

March Tech Classes To Cover Basics, iDevices, and Online Selling At Library

BENTON, KY – The Marshall County Public Library has scheduled three classes that focus on technology for adults during March.

“There are 3.2 billion Internet users worldwide, more than 279 million of which are in the United States. That means approximately 86% of Americans use the Internet,” says Zach Martin, Digital Media Coordinator. “Adults who didn’t grow up with computers and have trouble grasping the basics of the technology are at a serious disadvantage. Everything from applying for a job to viewing pictures of your grandchildren requires computer skills these days. That is why the library has begun to offer technology classes for adults.”

The library offers adult computer classes on the fourth Tuesday and Wednesday of the month at their @Benton branch. Intro to Computers is offered every month, while the topic for the other class varies from month to month. In March, the topic for the Tuesday session will on learning how to operate Apple devices, such as iPhones and iPads. A session on Android devices will be offered in April.

“The iDevices class is for anyone who owns an iPad or iPhone and would like to learn more about how to operate them. We’re asking that all participants bring in their device and any questions or problems they might have. It’s going to be very hands-on, and hopefully everyone will be comfortable using their device on their own when they leave,” says Martin.

In addition to their regularly scheduled tech classes, the library will also be offering a class focused on selling items online on March 24. The class will cover how to list items on sites such as eBay and Craigslist.

Preregistration is required for all adult tech classes at the library. To inquire about times or to register, call the Marshall County Public Library at 270-527-9969.
