Community Urged To “Drop Your Drawers” At The Library
BENTON, KY – The Marshall County Public Library is joining Dav Pilkey’s Captain Underpants and libraries across Kentucky in asking the community to “Drop Your Drawers” at the library.
The Drop Your Drawers campaign, which began in 2015 at the Campbell County Public Library, is a drive to collect underwear for the Family Resource Centers across the state. Clean, unused underwear is a high-demand item for Family Resource Centers, yet it is often an overlooked necessity when it comes to donations.
“Clean underwear is such a basic item, most of us take it for granted,” says Kristi Tucker, Director of the Marshall County Public Library. “We are proud to join Campbell County and the other libraries across Kentucky in this campaign to ensure the children of our community have the essential items they need.”
Fifty-four libraries across the Commonwealth will be participating in the campaign, allowing patrons to drop off new, unopened packs of underwear that will be distributed to their local Family Resource Centers. The underwear collected by the Marshall County Public Library will go to the Benton-Central, South-Jonathan, and Calvert City-Sharpe centers. The library has set a goal of collecting 1500 pair of underwear.
Popular children’s book character Captain Underpants will be the face of the 2016 Drop Your Drawers campaign. Captain Underpants is the creation of author/illustrator Dav Pilkey and the series has sold over 70 million copies worldwide.
During the month of November the library will be collecting new, unopened packages of boys and girls underwear in sizes 4-16. Donation boxes will be located at all three branches.
