Bookmobile Librarian Retires After 20 Years of Service

BENTON, KY – After twenty years of bringing the library into homes and schools across the county, Bookmobile Librarian Donna Jones is retiring from the Marshall County Public Library.

Jones began working for the library in 1997 when she took the position of Bookmobile Librarian. During her time at the library, she was responsible for outreach services to schools, day cares, and homebound patrons.  For many patrons, Jones’ true worth wasn’t in the materials she delivered, but in the relationships she built.

“Donna really cares about the people she visits on the Bookmobile, and that shows,” says Kristi Tucker, Director of the Marshall County Public Library. “She worked hard to provide the material her patrons enjoyed and was constantly on the look-out for material they requested.”

Jones’ co-workers will be equally sad to see her go. “We’ve given Donna the nickname of ‘Library Ninja’ because of her knack for finding books that mysteriously disappear,” says Lenisa Jones, Branch Manager @Benton. “Whenever something went missing, we always counted on Donna to find it for us.”

Donna Nelson will be taking over the Bookmobile’s rather impressive wheel this month. Hired in 2010, Nelson has been working at the Circulation Desk & in the Technical Services Department at the @Benton branch. Like the Donna who came before her, Nelson is a people person who loves helping patrons.

“Donna Nelson has strong Reader’s Advisory skills, and I know the Bookmobile patrons will appreciate that about her,” says Tucker.

Donna Jones' last day on the Bookmobile was Thursday, May 18.
