Kim Darnall Celebrates 35 Years Of Service To Community

HARDIN, KY – Kim Darnall, @Hardin Branch Manager, will be hanging up her date due stamp at the end of this month after thirty-five years with the Marshall County Public Library.

“Kim has played many roles during her employment at the library,” says Director Kristi Tucker. “She began her library career at Benton, shelving and checking out material to patrons. She eventually became the Inter-Library Loan Librarian and worked in the Technical Services department before moving to @Hardin to become the Branch Manager. She and I have worked together a long time, and we’ve seen many changes in the library world throughout the years, but it’s been a fun ride.”

A 1980 graduate of Marshall County High School, Darnall went on to study Business Administration and Library Science at Murray State University. She began working at the Marshall County Public Library in 1983 and became the @Hardin Branch Manager in 1996.

“So much has changed since I first started working at the library thirty-five years ago,” says Darnall. “Technology is probably the biggest change. In the beginning, we still used cards and pockets, but today everything is computerized. I remember when we used to only have two computers at our branch here in Hardin, and now we have twelve, which shows how different things are. Even the needs of our patrons have changed. We’ve gone from mainly books to audiobooks, DVDs, eBooks, and online resources.”

Darnall, a Hardin native, has had a lasting positive impact on her community. Deidra Tosh, who will be assuming the role of Branch Manager after Darnall’s retirement, says that Kim “truly cares for our community and our patrons. She is always thinking of the library and its patrons and what is best for them. Our staff and our patrons will all miss her very much.”

A reception in Darnall’s honor will be held on November 21 at 2:00 p.m. at the Marshall County Public Library @Hardin. The public is invited to attend.
