Justin Lamb Recounts H.H. Lovett’s

Influential History At Library’s Lunch & Learn Program

Benton, KY – For many people in Marshall County, H.H. Lovett is simply a name that resides over the entrance of the city park.  Rarely is much attention given to the Marshall County judge who donated the fifty-two acres the park sits on. Last Wednesday at the Marshall County Public Library’s Lunch and Learn program, Justin Lamb changed that by bringing the history of one of our community’s most prominent historical figures to life.

By interviewing family members and listening to interviews provided through the Marshall County Public Library’s Oral History Project, Lamb was able to piece together the story of a man who was devoted to his hometown. His career began at the Benton School, and he remained an important figure in the school system for many years. A lover of sports, Lovett introduced Marshall County to basketball and an appreciation of the St. Louis Cardinals and UK Wildcats. He served as a judge for Marshall County, and eventually retired from the law firm of Lovett & Lovett.

Also on hand at the program was Jeri Lovett Harrell, Lovett’s granddaughter who shared her own memories and stories.

The life of H.H. Lovett was presented as part of the Marshall County Public Library’s Lunch and Learn series. The library hosts a variety of Lunch & Learn sessions throughout the year on various topics. The next program is scheduled for October 15.
