Benton, KY – According to the Kentucky Department of Libraries and Archives annual statistics, the Marshall County Public Library was one of the most used in the state during the 2012-2013 Fiscal Year. Marshall County ranked number two in the state for book circulation per capita, having circulated more than 326,000 books during the twelve-month period.
“We are proud to see our library once again taking one of the top spots in book circulation,” says Kristi Tucker, Director of the Marshall County Public Library. “For the past eight years, Marshall County has been one of the top Kentucky libraries in terms of book circulation per capita, which says a lot about the type of community we live in. Marshall County is a place that values reading and supports their library system.”
According to the statistics published on the Kentucky Department of Libraries and Archives website, the Marshall County Public Library provides a collection of over 181,000 books; 17,000 DVDs; 6,000 physical audio books; 18,000 digital audio books; 60,000 eBooks; and 45 databases across its three branches.
“Not only does Marshall County boast some of the highest circulation numbers in the state, we are also ranked in the top ten for most registered borrowers per capita,” says Tucker. “Over 30,100 people have a library card from the Marshall County Public Library, which is truly amazing. During the 2012-2013 Fiscal Year we saw more than 209,000 people come into our three branches to check out material, use public access computers, and attend programs. The library is a busy, active place where people from all walks of life can find something to meet their needs and interests.”
In September the Marshall County Public Library will be celebrating National Library Card Month along with other libraries across the country. As a show of appreciation for all the patrons who use the library, they will be offering free library card replacement cards all month long. Additionally, they will be asking their patrons to complete the sentence, “I love my library card because…” for a chance to win a Kindle Fire XDX..
