Library To Host Family Game Night
BENTON, KY – Parents looking to increase their children’s school performance and create stronger family bonds need look no further than the board games gathering dust in their closets.
“Multiple studies show the benefits of families sitting down and playing games together,” says Lenisa Jones, Branch Manager for the Marshall County Public Library @Benton. “Board games are especially beneficial because they force families to sit down and actually look at each other instead of a screen.”
The benefits of gaming can be present in children as young as two years old who are able to recognize more numbers and letters, have an increased vocabulary, and display better motor skills. Older children who participate in family game nights often have better math and reasoning skills than their fellow classmates.
According to Jones, the educational benefits are secondary to what she deems the best part of family gaming – the time spent together. “When you sit down to play games with your family, you talk and laugh together. You make the kind of memories that will last a lifetime.”
In an effort to encourage families to explore the benefits of family gaming, the Marshall County Public Library is offering their first-ever Family Game Night on Monday, October 26, at their @Benton branch from 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm. The program will feature various stations and games that families can participate in and enjoy together, regardless of age. Door prizes and snacks will be provided.
